Every single registered domain name has a minimum of 2 Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a certain website hosting company. That way, you've got both your site and your emails handled by the exact same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, for instance A and MX. The former shows which server handles the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, any time you type a domain in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of another company provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the site and the e-mails suggests that you could have your website and your e-mails with two different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account from our company and you want to direct either your website or your emails to an alternative service provider, it will take you literally only two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia Control Panel offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two, it's not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or set up isn't going to take more than a few hours and if required, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will remain active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for each of your domain names or subdomains is extremely easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are managed using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you can click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you won't experience any troubles if you decide to switch your website or emails to another provider while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you could also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
